My Go To Press On Nail Application Routine

My Go To Press On Nail Application Routine

If you wear press on nails, you know sometimes application can be tricky. After 3 years of owning a press on nail business, I’d like to say I have mastered the skill of applying them and getting them to stay… and I have… at least for myself.

Here’s what I use to make my press ons last and hopefully it works for you too:

1. Quality Press Ons

If you’re wondering why cheap press ons from the dollar store aren’t staying on, it’s because you get what you pay for. Most cheap press ons aren’t durable and strong enough to withstand everyday activities. Invest in some quality press ons if you want them to last. Plus, most quality press ons are reusable!

2. Cleaning Up Your Nails

Make sure you’re starting with clean nails before you apply press ons. Your nails should be bare before you apply them. There shouldn’t be any leftover residue from other nail enhancements. Make sure you wash your hands, clean up cuticles if needed, and buff your nails.

3. Dehydrator and Primer

I like to use a dehydrator and primer before I glue on my nails especially if I want them to last. If you have ever gotten acrylics done, chances are they used a dehydrator and primer before they apply the acrylic. This helps the adhesive stick better to your natural nail. My go-to nail dehydrator is the Mia Secret Dehydrator.

4. Prepping Your Press Ons

This is a step that’s most often skipped. Always check your press ons to ensure they fit. If they seem a little too big, try to file around the edges to fit your nails.

5. Determine Your Adhesive Method

There are 2 ways to adhere your press on nails. One way is using sticky tabs. This is a great option for 1-3 day wear. If you want your nails to last longer, use a glue. My two favorite glue options are Makartt Nail Glue and Cala Super Nail Glue.

6. Apply the Press Ons

Apply your glue or sticky tabs onto your nail then apply the press on. Press and hold for 10-15 seconds until you cannot move the press on. Do not use too much glue or else it will spill out the edges. Glue is very sticky so be careful!

7. Cuticle Oil

After all the press on nails are applied, use cuticle oil to bring moisture back onto your cuticle area. This helps keep your new mani looking fresh!

Pro Tips: Do not wash your hands for an hour after application. My personal favorite time to apply press ons is before bed so the glue has all night to fully dry.
